Tutorial: Sideskirts

Program: This tutorial works with Adobe Photoshop - please note that some of the menu structures may vary from version to version.

Introduction: Te honest this can actually be very difficult! TRY to make sure you find donors cars at EXACTLY the same angle as it will NOT look right. Also it helps if the kit to be transferred over is the the same kind of contrast/brightness/colour.

Difficulty: 4/5 - Requires quite a vast experience of a few tools.

Sideskirts

Difficulty - ****

In this tutorial I think we'll add a side skirt to the side of this Mazda 6 Estate.

I have managed to find a nice angle donor car from seriouswheels.com. The donor car is a Buick Lucerne.

Grab the Polygon Lasso tool (L) and draw closely around the edges of it. Once you have gone around the skirt in a full loop, the selection will be complete (hashed line like left). Then copy it, using the CTRL+C command.

Paste it (CTRL+V Command) onto the car you are modifying and then press CTRL+T to begin skewing it and altering it until it fits the car perfectly...

... kinda like this! However, as you can see, this is a rather bad colour match.

If you are in the same situation, then now is the time to adjust the hue/saturation of the skirt.

Go to Image>Adjust>Hue/Saturation. Adjusting the Hue "slider" will change the colour of the skirt. Adjusting the Saturation "slider" will change the intensity of the colour of the skirt.

There is also a brightness adjustment on there, should you need to make the skirt lighter or darker.

There we go! All it needs now is lowering slightly and a set of wheels!
